Mullins began his journalism journey with l ocal outlets such as the Loughborough Trader and Loughborough Echo. His career took a pivotal turn in 1985 when he joined the BBC. By 1991, he had transitioned to BBC Radio Sport, where he became an integral part of the Rugby Special team. During his time at the BBC, Mullins covered prestigious rugby tournaments, including the Six Nations Championship, Premiership, Heineken Cup, and Anglo-Welsh Cup. His versatility extended beyond rugby, providing commentary for Wimbledon matches on BBC Radio 5 Live and covering several Olympic Games since 1996.
Commentary Career
In 2010, Mullins made a significant career move by joining ESPN as the lead rugby commentator. His prominence in sports broadcasting grew when he became ITV Sport's chief commentator for the 2011 and 2015 Rugby World Cups. Notably, Mullins commentated on the 2015 final alongside Ben Kay and Lawrence Dallaglio. In 2013, he further cemented his status in rugby commentary by joining BT Sport after they secured the broadcasting rights for Premiership Rugby.
